Team

Dr. Tobias Vančura (CEO)

Tobias holds a PhD in physics from the ETH in Zurich, Switzerland. He developed a tuning fork based AFM working in a He3-cryostat at below 300mK and did Kelvin Probe Microscopy on low-dimensional AlGaAs heterostructures. After working as a postdoc on CMOS-MEMS at the Physical Electronics Laboratory of the ETH he joined Nanonis in February 2003 as Chief Marketing Officer. He took over the role of CEO in 2006. Tobias holds an MBA from INSEAD.

Dr. Jörg Rychen (CTO)

Jörg received his PhD in physics from the ETH in Zurich, Switzerland. One of the important elements delivered in his thesis was the imaging of edge channels in the quantum Hall regime with a tuning fork based low-temperature AFM. The idea to found Nanonis came while he was working as a postdoc in the National Center of Competence in Research (NCCR) Nanoscale Science at the University of Basel, Switzerland.
As the company's Chief Technical Officer, Jörg is in charge of development, system integration and scientific support to customers.

Dr. Romain Stomp (Application Scientist)

Romain did his PhD in physics from McGill University in Montréal, Canada, in the group of Peter Grütter. He also has an MSc in Chemical Engineering. During his PhD research Romain focused on the investigation of charging effects in quantum dots by non-contact AFM.
In 2006 he joined Nanonis and works in system integration as well as in sales and customer support.

Dr. Anisoara Socoliuc (Application Scientist)

Ani did her PhD at the University of Basel, Switzerland, in the group of Prof. Ernst Meyer. She worked extensively on nanotribology and self-assembly of molecules on insulating surfaces. Ani has published a series of high-profile journal articles and is contributing author to books on the topic.
Ani joined Nanonis in 2007 and works in system integration as well as sales and customer support.

Dr. Domenique Weiner (Application Scientist)

Domenique received his PhD from the University of Münster in Germany, where he worked on non-contact AFM in the group of Prof. H. Fuchs and at the Center for Nanotechnology (CeNTech) .
With his experience and network he will strengthen Nanonis's sales force and do installation with our clients.

Dr. George Lengel (Application Scientist - USA)

George received his PhD in physics from Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas USA working in the cross sectional UHV STM group of Michael Weimer. He characterized native defects on the GaAs(110) surface. He then joined the group of Ellen Williams at the University of Maryland in College Park, Maryland, USA, where he studied the growth morphology and mound formation of III-V materials grown via MBE using in-situ STM. Prior to joining Nanonis he was a long time employee of RHK Technology, Inc. where he provided customer support along with a variety of other roles.

George will work from our US office and support our clients in North America.

Dipl. Ing. Daniel Uehli (System Engineer)

Daniel holds an MSc in Engineering from ETH Zurich, Switzerland. With his profound experience in LabVIEW programming he immediately became an extremely valuable member of team when he joined Nanonis in April 2004. Through a CTI project he had the opportunity to work for several months at the Nanolab of the University of Basel to gain practical experience in scanning probe techniques.
As our System Engineer, Daniel has significant responsibility for software development and system integration. With his extensive knowledge of the system customers frequently seek his technical advice.

Dr. Nicolas Weiss (System Engineer)

Nicolas holds a PhD in physics from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne (EPFL). He gained a lot of experience in scanning probe microscopy during his PhD and later at the famous IBM Research Laboratory in Almaden, CA, where he developed advanced experimental apparatuses. Throughout his career Nicolas worked with LabVIEW bringing in valuable experience to the Nanonis team.
At Nanonis Nicolas works mainly on the control system software to bring it to the next level in terms of functionality, flexibility and usability.

Karin Denzler (Office Manager)

Karin has held various positions in the computer technology and high-tech industries and with her profound background in business administration she is a highly valuable member of our team since September 2007.

Regula Bründler (Accounting)

Regula has worked in accounting for a series of high-tech companies and takes care of all financial aspects of the business.
